Antonino Benincasa has more than twenty years of experience in the field of design and visual communication in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy. He graduated in visual communication from the University of Applied Sciences, HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany in 1993. In 1996 he moved from Germany to Milan, Italy, where he founded Husmann-Benincasa Corporate & Brand Design together with his wife Nicole Husmann. As creative director of Husmann-Benincasa Corporate & Brand Design he designed the logo and the corporate identity of the 2006 Turin Olympic Winter Games, of the Paralympic Games and of all related sub-brands.  He is an internationally renowned designer who has won several prizes and has had his work published on a multitude of occasions. From 1997-2005 Antonino taught communication design at the Faculty of Design of the Politecnico di Milano. In 2005 he became a tenured professor at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where he teaches communication design, mainly focusing on typography and editorial design. From 2010 to 2014 Antonino was Head of the Bachelor programme in Design and Art.

Giorgio Camuffo, Italian graphic designer, is Associate Professor of visual communication at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where he also is a coordinator of research projects on diverse topics, such as the intersection of graphic design with exhibiting and curatorial practices, and the relationship of design and learning. He has been a teacher and a tutor at various universities, and in 2006-2009 he was the director of the graduate programme in visual and multimedia communication at the Università Iuav in Venice. He has organised and curated many exhibitions, among which most recently, Graphic Design Worlds, devoted to contemporary international graphic design, held at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in 2011, and for which he also co-curated the accompanying book Graphic Design Worlds/Words. In 2012 Camuffo co-curated, with Mario Piazza and Carlo Vinti, the 5th edition of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, TDM5: Grafica Italiana, and the catalogue with the same title. In 2013 he co-edited, with Maddalena Dalla Mura, Graphic Design, Exhibiting, Curating, proceedings of the conference organised in 2012 at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. He is currently curating a publication on “learning and design”.

Maddalena Dalla Mura carries out research in the fields of graphic design, design history and museum studies. With a MA in preservation of the cultural heritage, she received her PhD in design sciences from the Università Iuav di Venezia in 2010. She is currently collaborating as a researcher at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where she has also taught Languages and Theories of Visual Communication. Among her most recent publications: Graphic Design Worlds /Words (co-edited with Giorgio Camuffo, Electa, 2011); the chapter “A Historiography of Italian Design” (with Carlo Vinti) in Made in Italy: Rethinking a Century of Italian Design (Bloomsbury Academic, 2013); “Graphic Design, History, Italy”, special issue of the magazine Progetto Grafico (co-edited with Carlo Vinti, Aiap, 2013); Graphic Design, Exhibiting, Curating (proceedings of the conference of the same title; co-editor with Giorgio Camuffo, BU Press, 2013).

Christian Upmeier served as a tenured associate professor for visual communication at the Hochschule Darmstadt from 2003 until 2005, and at the Free University Bozen-Bolzano since 2005. He was a researcher in design at the Bauhaus Universität Weimar from 1995 to 2003. Between 1988 and 1994 he worked in various design studios in Canada, The Netherlands and Germany. He received his diploma in graphic design at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart.

Carlo Vinti is an assistant professor in the School of Architecture and Design at the Università degli Studi di Camerino. He received a PhD in arts theory and history (School of Advanced Studies in Venice, 2006) and has been an adjunct professor and research fellow at the Università Iuav di Venezia. In 2012 he co-curated with Giorgio Camuffo and Mario Piazza the 5th edition of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, TDM5: Grafica Italiana, and the catalogue with the same title. Among his publications: Gli Anni dello Stile Industriale 1948-1965 (Marsilio, 2007) and Comunicare l’Impresa (co-edited with Giorgio Bigatti, Guerini e Associati, 2010); the chapter “A Historiography of Italian Design” (with Maddalena Dalla Mura) in Made in Italy: Rethinking a Century of Italian Design (Bloomsbury Academic, 2013); “Graphic Design, History, Italy”, special issue of the magazine Progetto Grafico (co-edited with Maddalena Dalla Mura, Aiap, 2013).

Matteo Moretti is a motion and interaction designer. Graduated in 2004 in Science in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano, since 2006 he teaches at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano. Since 2010 he is Researcher with fixed term in “Visual culture and its impact on society” at the same Faculty. In 2013 he launched, with Kris Krois, the visual journalism project and platform visualjournalism.unibz.it.
